LEGO Batman Movie: 75 Easter Eggs & References You Need To See
30. Why Did The Old Lady Cross The Road?
When Batman first takes Robin out for a drive in the Batmobile, he absent-mindedly takes his eyes off the road, only to almost run over a little old lady crossing the road. They slam on the brakes and she escapes harm.
This is a call back to the scene in Batman Returns when The Penguin hi-jacks the vehicle and an old lady is almost run over. It's only Batman's fast actions that stop her being smushed too...
29. The Seat-Belt Gag
During their race around Gotham in the Batmobile, Robin asks Batman why the car doesn't come with seatbelts: his response says it all about his initial parenting method: "Life doesn't give you seatbelts!" The great irony is that the original series of Batman actually included seatbelts - which were just being introduced at the time - as a nod to how goodie-goodie the characters were.
When Batman slams on the brakes, inevitably Robin slams into the windshield and Batman is distraught.
28. The Uber-Villains
The Joker learns that the Phantom Zone contains the world's worst super-villains, and when he's eventually sent there he meets them - and they're pretty much all movie characters.
The Zone's prisoner list includes Voldemort, Sauron, King Kong, Godzilla, Agent Smith from The Matrix, the Wicked Witch from The Wizard Of Oz, Dracula, the Gremlins, the Daleks, the Creature From The Black Lagoon, Jaws and the Jurassic Park dinosaurs.
