Life Of The Party Review: 2 Ups & 7 Downs

2. Maya Rudolph Steals The Show

Life Of The Party Maya Rudolph
Warner Bros.

To the surprise of just about nobody who's ever seen Maya Rudolph in anything, she steals the hell out of this movie every time she's on screen, which is thankfully quite a bit.

Rudolph plays Deanna's best friend, Christine, a boisterous - yet not obnoxious - no-bulls*** middle-aged woman who serves as Deanna's confidante throughout her journey.

Rudolph has a knack for being the best thing in bad comedies, and here she substantially elevates two scenes in particular - a meeting with a mediator and an extremely awkward dinner - with her marvellous comic timing.

And on top of this she's married to Paul Thomas Anderson. Seriously, how can you not love this woman?
