Life On Mars? Probably Not, But Here's 10 Films That Say Otherwise

2. Total Recall

If, like the rest of the world already has, you'd be so kind as to forget that disastrous and unnecessary Colin Farrell version of an Arnie classic, you'd be doing yourself a kind favour. Unlike its remake, 1990's Total Recall was the film that Sci-Fi fans didn't ask for, nor were they expecting, but has grown to become one of the must-haves of an embarrassingly enriched genre. Centred around the idea of a world in which memory implants act as legal pacifiers to numb a person's day-to-day struggle, Total Recall's plot intertwined an intellectual complexity with a balls to the wall brutality; the infamous decompressed head explosion scene providing substance to the latter claim. Concerning the Governator, it was no tall order to ask a man such as Arnold Schwarzenegger to portray an imposing figure. However, it was to demand of him a deep and meaningful performance. Fret not, for those responsible in the casting department tackled this aspect by making the ingenious decision to cast him as a man with the fundamental characteristics of a memoryless hulk. Yes, Total Recall fired on all cylinders and, thanks to Mr Farrell, will forever be remembered as the definitive version of a futuristic action film.
