Limited Edition CAPTAIN AMERICA Posters from Alamo Drafthouse & Mondo!

Eric Tan, Olly Moss, Tyler Stout give us six of the best alternative Captain America: The First Avenger posters!

The world just keeps getting better. Not only are we just days away from the Comic-Con premiere of Disney/Marvel's comic book blockbuster Captain America: The First Avenger (pst... we've seen it early and the film frikkin rules!) but now those amazing peeps from Mondo have brought us the most spectacular posters yet! I don't know if you have been to a little city called Austin, in a southern U.S state named Texas. I have. And I am eternally trying to get back. There are so many reasons why I love that town, not the least of which is my love affair with the greatest cinema in the world - The Alamo Drafthouse. I will describe the wonder that is the Alamo in another post, but all you need to know right now is that nestled within its walls is a shopfront for one of the greatest independent online-based stores in existence.

Mondo

Their main schtick is releasing alternative film posters for cult classic hits, drawn by amazing artists. These are super limited edition print runs that are never again reprinted. Literally once-in-a-lifetime opportunities. And to top it off their posters are SO much greater than the real promotional materials for these films. This time however Mondo are breaching a new frontline; alternative posters for a film yet to be released and tied into the actual marketing. They have released promo images for the 6 posters that are going on sale during Comic-Con 2011. Two by Eric Tan: Another two by artist Olly Moss: And last, but most definitely not least, an original and a variant version poster by Tyler Stout: If the final two posters seem familiar, then it is likely that you have picked up a copy of Marvel Comics' Captain America: First Vengeance #4. Tyler Stout's amazing depiction was chosen to grace the cover of the most recent of this tie-in series (you can read my review of it here). All I can say is WOW! If only Marvel had taken this bold approach of utilising War World II era propaganda imagery. Stark, dominating and eye catching. If I didn't already want to see the film, I seriously do now. If you are lucky enough to be going to Comic-Con, make sure you swing by booth #433 in the Main Exhibition Hall. Mondo are making their debut at the convention and are bringing with them some Comic-Con-only collectables (I have a feeling that some of these Cap posters may be a part of this). If you want to purchase one of these awesome posters: Eric Tan -- Two 18" x 24" Screenprints, Editions of 220 (each), $80 per set.Olly Moss --Two 18" x 24" Screenprints, Editions of 375 (each), $85 per set. Remember that these are super limited edition. Once they are gone, they are completely gone. I can tell you that I will be among the online crowd fighting to get my hands on one of these!!
