Locked Down Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs
2. Doug Liman's Understated Direction
It's absolutely fair to say that, by its sheer conception alone, Locked Down wasn't a movie which required the talents of a successful blockbuster filmmaker like Doug Liman.
That said, Liman brings an agreeably unfussed quality to the film with his unobtrusive directorial style, capturing the various dialogues between Hathaway and Ejiofor with tight, claustrophobic coverage which only accentuates the boxed-in feeling of lockdown.
Liman clearly savours those few times he's allowed to shoot outside, particularly during a motorcycle ride or two around London, though for the most part his strength lies in getting the best out of his actors and using the simple style to his advantage.
