Logan: 10 Reasons It Blows Deadpool Away
5. The Humour Is More Dry & Restrained
There's no accounting for taste when it comes to humour, and it's fair to say that Deadpool aimed squarely for juvenile, intentionally outrageous laughs, and to that end totally delivered.
Logan instead faced a much bigger challenge with its tone, because Deadpool-esque gags would feel massively out of place in such a bleak story, but without some humour it'd end up feeling relentlessly dour like one of Zack Snyder's superhero films.
Logan does such a brilliant job with this, fielding out laughs that reveal more about the characters and doing so in a more subtle, restrained way, such that it doesn't generate mood whiplash for the viewer.
The banter between Logan and Charles accounts for much of the film's levity, and it's perfectly wrought, if again benefiting from the advantage of the audience's collective fondness for these two characters over the last two decades.
