Logan: 12 Theories That Were Utter Bull

7. There's A Flashback To The Mutant Apocalypse

X-Men: Days Of Future Past Cyclops Wolverine Jean Grey
20th Century Fox

The Theory: It was already known prior to release that mutants are largely wiped out by the time Logan begins, and many fans believed that the film would feature a sequence depicting the mysterious apocalyptic event that killed off most of the mutants, complete with cameos from many of the original X-Men stars.

The Truth: First off, there's not a single legacy cameo here, so no sign of Famke Janssen, James Marsden, Halle Berry, Ian McKellen or anyone like that, and secondly, no, there are no flashbacks to the mutant extermination.

It's really better off this way, because the eventual implied reveal, that Xavier himself accidentally killed a large portion of the mutant population during a psionic episode, is so much more powerful when we have to imagine the horror ourselves. It's brilliantly done.
