Logan Review: 9 Ups & 2 Downs

8. It's Mature In Every Sense Of The Word

Deadpool is "mature", but not really mature: it's violent and sweary, but also willfully immature for the sake of uproarious comedy. Logan is no such film.

Logan features countless severed limbs and appendages and a sailor-like level of bad language, but thematically, it's also got more in common with a western like Unforgiven or No Country for Old Men than a typical superhero film.

James Mangold does a fantastic job devoting more time to characters than action, and the result is a film that works as both a straight-up drama and a gloriously violent spectacle. That's immensely rare, and should help Logan strike a special chord with a wide range of audiences.
