Logan Review: 9 Ups & 2 Downs

9. Hugh Jackman Gives An Oscar-Worthy Performance
If Logan came out in October or November, Fox would probably be mounting an Oscar campaign for Hugh Jackman, because he gives not only his best performance as the character, but turns in the best work of his career here.
Completely creatively unrestrained, you get the sense that Jackman is giving the portrayal of Logan he always wanted to, and of course, it's tremendously fitting given this being his apparently final time playing the character.
Jackman completely surrenders the sadness, the desperation and the anger of his character, living in a post-mutant world where all he wants to do is buy a boat to escape from everything.
It's tremendous work with an enormously cathartic payoff, and Fox would be dumb not to push Jackman for a Best Actor nomination at year's end, unlikely though it probably is.
