London Film Festival 2015: The 10 Films You Need To See

5. Room

The Pitch: Brie Larson plays a kidnapped woman who, along with her born-in-captivity son, dreams of escaping their confined room, in the adaptation of the novel by Emma Donoghue (who also wrote the script). So no, not a comedy riffing on The Room. Why You Should Be Excited: Brie Larson has been on the tip of notoriety for a long time, with impressive but not show-stopping roles in everything from Don Jon to Community. Room looks to change that, with a highly lauded performance alongside eight-year old Jacob Tremblay as her imprisoned son, who appears to go against the typical trend of child actors. Leonard Abrahamson directs, and his eclectic style signals that we won't just be getting a weepie desperate to make you cry. The Buzz: The film was a massive hit at Toronto, earning rave reviews from critics and winning the People's Choice Award. This has all the hallmarks of an Oscar hit, with Brie Larson getting some serious traction for Best Actress on top of the film itself. The one to watch from TIFF is a must-see at London. When's It Released? 16th October (US), 29th January 2016 (UK)
