London Film Festival 2015: The 10 Films You Need To See
6. Steve Jobs
The Pitch: The story of Steve Jobs, the late genius who took Apple from niche computing company with a few good adverts to the biggest tech company in the world, told over three of his famous product launches. Why You Should Be Excited: At this point a Steve Jobs film is hardly a novel idea, but this one has more than Ashton Kutcher in a pair of jeans. Aaron Sorkin is on scripting duties, and we know just how exciting he can make the dryness of tech business from The Social Network, while Danny Boyle promises an off-kilter slant in lieu of the the Facbook movie's David Fincher (who was originally attached to direct) and although he wasn't the first choice, only cynics would say Michael Fassbender doesn't promise something great. The big question, though, is will it appeal to more than the Apple die-hards? The Buzz: The film premiered at the Telluride Film Festival, where it got solid reviews, although not without several comments about an "unconventional" approach (that'll be Boyle). Fassbender in particular was a point of praise, so that last minute recasting clearly wasn't an issue (surprised?). It'll close the festival, so no pressure. When's It Released? 23rd October (US), 13th November (UK)
