3. X-Men: The Last Stand
Another X-Men story I know, but as soon as Looper introduced mutants into its narrative, similarities and comparisons were bound to be made. This films influence is much less than the Second Coming comic or The Terminator film, but needs to be mentioned regardless. The scene I am talking about here which is the reason why the film is included on this list is a scene very similar to the time we see Emily Blunts son in Looper use his telekinetic powers to kill one of the hired muscle members (Gat Men). In an angered and unstable state, the boy rises the man into the air, along with other household objects in the house where he is sitting, and basically causes the man to explode using his mind. I don't know about you but wasn't this whole scene almost exactly like the time Jean Grey/Phoenix kills Professor X in X-Men: The Last Stand. Both scenes show household objects rising from the ground as if there is no gravity in the room, both scenes include an incredibly powerful mutant with telekinetic abilities with control and emotional problems, both scenes show a man explode and both scenes show a blast of energy being released from both houses when this event has finished. Though it is only similar really in this respect, the scenes are almost identical and Johnson must have been aware of this when making Looper. It is odd that having known the two scenes where so similar that he wouldn't have changed the scene around just a little, especially considering X-Men: The Last Stand is so loathed by science fiction fans. I can forgive this because I loved the film Looper, but this is one similarity which is so the same it is arguably embarrassing. Plus, I hate to say it, but The Last Stand probably did this one scene just a little better. Certainly had more of an impact.
