Looper: 4 Films and 1 Comic Book It Totally Ripped Off

4. X-Men Comics: "Second Coming"

I am going to assume most of you haven't read this recent and very great X-Men comic entitled Second Coming so as of now you know very little about why Looper and this story have so much in common. I also doubt, although it isn't at all out of the realms of possibility that Johnson probably hasn't read this title either, though like I previously said, any movie is bound to be similar to many other films of fiction of all kinds so this is hardly a criticism. For those of you who aren't aware of this storyline I will sum it up very briefly here. Second Coming shows the time traveling mutant Cable having to protect a teenage girl- the mutant messiah basically (the first mutant born in a long time since M-Day where most mutant lost their powers and no new mutants could be created) from many different forces who want the girl dead. This mirrors Levitt's characters journey in the film, however there is also another glaring similarity to mention, which grants this comics inclusion on this list... Was it just me or was the introduction of telekinesis in Looper a little unbelievable and unrealistic- however totally cool and integral to the plot. I certainly wasn't expecting any mutants of any kind when I went to see this film. In Second Coming, the mutant child Cable is trying to protect also has telekinetic powers and can emit extremely powerful energy blasts. She is an Omega level mutant (the most powerful kind) and has exhibited the Phoenix Force. Basically, the child Levitt is trying to protect in Looper is very similar to the child Cable is trying to protect in Second Coming. I can forgive all of this ones similarities simply because I think Second Coming would, and probably will eventually make a great X-Men film. I predict the rumored X-Men 4 and 5 we keep hearing about are intended to tell the stories of Messiah Complex and then Second Coming which follows on from this. How they will deal with the House of M storyline however is far more tricky (the story preceding these two).
