Lord Of The Rings & Hobbit: 12 BIGGEST Mistakes We Have To Live With

1. Winging The Entire Hobbit Trilogy

Let's not beat around the bush here: The Hobbit Trilogy is a complete mess.

Most of the characters are underdeveloped, the films are badly structured and edited, they're bogged down with pointless subplots and overall, they make for an overlong, sometimes emotionless experience.

The reason for this? They were rushed into production. Peter Jackson openly admitted he didn't know what he was doing and was winging it for the whole thing, since he didn't get enough time to prepare this huge project.

These films being less successful is not the fault of Peter Jackson. He's an outstanding director and he, Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh are superb writers too; thanks to their efforts, this trilogy isn't the bad one it could easily have been and there's still plenty of strong material in here (especially in the second film).

Unfortunately, thanks to the rushed production schedule Jackson, Boyens and Walsh were fighting an uphill battle from the off and there was a limit to how much they could realistically do.

In short, this overly fast production is the biggest mistake the franchise has ever made, since it ensured The Hobbit Trilogy could never hope to live up to Lord of the Rings or rise to true cinematic greatness.
