Mad Max: Fury Road - 20 Easter Eggs, In-Jokes & References
8. The Car Totem
It's an easy reference to spot of course, but Max being mounted on the front of one of Immortan Joe's goons' cars as a strange living figurehead is a call-back to the victims mounted on the front of Lord Humungus' rig in Road Warrior.
In both cases, it's clearly meant as a display of power by the villain, though even Humungus drew the line at face masks crudely fashioned out of garden tools. It's good to see the films' commitment to steam-punk's home-made manifesto includes the chosen methods of imprisonment and torture, though.
