Mad Max Fury Road: 5 Awesome Moments And 5 That Sucked

9. Sucked: The Villain

Mad Max Fury Road Villain
Warner Bros. Pictures

Visually, Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne from the original Mad Max) is an impressive creation: a bulbous, armoured warlord with a grotesque horse-toothed face-mask. But he's a bit lacking in some other important areas. This type of movie doesn't necessarily require a fully fleshed out bad guy, but even still it would have been nice (nice is perhaps that's the wrong adjective) to spend a bit more time with the horrible bastard and learn about the inner workings of his stronghold etc.

Aside from that, the dude just isn't particularly imposing or intimidating. He surrounds himself with plenty of muscle, but we never get to see him throw down with either of his adversaries personally. Plus, his echoing, almost disembodied sounding voice results in a few chuckles now and again.

Not a terrible villain by any means, just not a particularly good one either.
