Mad Max Fury Road: 5 Awesome Moments And 5 That Sucked

7. Sucked: The Plot... Or Lack Thereof

Mad Max Fury Road Villain

Obviously you don't walk into a Mad Max movie expecting a layered, multifaceted story, but at times Fury Road definitely feels like it'd have benefited from a tad more attention being paid to the plot.

We know all we need to know in regards to the main narrative, but a lot the smaller stuff that would have went towards building a better understanding of the characters and the world they inhabit is never properly explained. Yes, too much exposition is a killer, but none at all can be just as damaging.

Also, we're never told what time-frame this movie is set in. Is it even supposed to exist in the same universe as the other films? A few things suggest that it is (Max's music box, the fact that he's haunted by ghosts from his past, his Road Warrior branding etc) , but there are also indications that Miller wants Fury Road to work as a reboot at the same time. It'd be nice to know one way or the other.
