Malignant Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs

2. The RIDICULOUS Third Act

Malignant 2021
Warner Bros.

While few movies have third acts solely worth watching movies for, Malignant is a rare exception.

Without getting into spoilers - because everyone deserves to experience this madness for themselves - the film takes a sharp left-turn in its final reel, veering enthusiastically off the rails for a finale just about nobody could've seen coming.

Between the hilariously outlandish plot twists and some bewildering, ultra-violent action that has to be seen to be believed, Malignant at least has the good sense to save its best material for last.

Granted, Wan is taking some bold risks here and they won't work for many casual-minded viewers, but for anyone willing to embrace the wackiness of Wan's vision, it does make for an entertainingly WTF climax.
