8. Henry Cavill
There will be a lot of references to how Man Of Steel is following the Batman blueprint here, so please dont get tired of it, but this is the first one. Casting a British actor as a quintessentially American hero (the fact that Superman is an alien is neither here nor there) represents a bold step. Especially considering one with a relatively low profile like Henry Cavill has. Hes dipped his toe in to the mainstream since this announcement, Immortals was a sort of enjoyable/sort of laughable affair where he mastered the art of looking like he was constantly smelling something disgusting. Whilst The Cold Light Of Day was apparently, (I didnt see it because of...) quite terrible. This isnt the strongest build up for Superman, but one can only think that a man picked out of a casting call that probably numbered in the thousands of men will have good things to offer, and maybe he was saving his best for his turn as the Man Of Steel. With an apparently drastic reinterpretation in the offing (emphasis on daddy issues, embracing being a hero, inspiring the world, gritty/realistic action with a character centric story...The whole Batman kind of thing) we could see an actor given free rein to invent Clark Kent as he sees fit which promises to be an engrossing affair.
