Man Of Steel: 10 Reasons It Could Be The Best Film of 2013

6. Daddy No.2: Russell Crowe

steel of ma As alien father Jor-El, Russell Crowe is keeping up the tradition of acting heavyweights in this daddy category (a role previously held by Marlon Brando although, even with inflation, Russell Crowe will still probably be the cheaper billing), with the Oscar winner promising to bring huge credentials to a potentially very short but impactful sequence. Jor-El, as everyone who has ever sniffed near anything to do with comics will know, is Superman€™s biological father who, in the wake of planetary destruction, sends his infant son, Kal-El, to earth before Krypton€™s destruction. No prizes for seeing where this character will end up. Indeed, the second trailer gives particular emphasis to a shot of Jor-El kissing his son on the head in a room of destruction, and you can tell that his will be a lasting effect throughout the film. Similarly to Kevin Costner€™s Jonathon Kent, Jor El is also given voice over duties for a cut of the original trailer, instead this time emphasising the ideal that Superman will stand for as he inspires earth. Combining the two sets of fathers together you can tell that Clark will be driven by an incredible sense of duty, one that he will conflict when he asks the age old question (something that was never explored in the Batman trilogy) of: I didn€™t ask for this, why should I do this? A conflicted hero is in the offing. I, for one, can€™t wait.
