3. A Realistic Approach To Superman

Thanks to Nolan and Goyer, The Dark Knight trilogy portrayed Bruce Wayne as a superhero in a world of realism. Along with Zack Snyder, Nolan and Goyer are once again using elements of the real world to tell their story in Man Of Steel. Many philosophical questions are asked in the trailers by different characters such as Superman's biological father, Jor-El, Superman's adoptive father, Jonathan Kent and by Superman himself that suggest what if Superman were to exist in the real world? How would people respond to the presence of this unique individual? From watching the trailers, it is clear the military reacts to Superman's presence and wants to know what his agenda is thanks to the head-turning factor of his superhuman abilities. The arrival of General Zod likely creates suspicions from the military because Superman and Zod are affiliated. Superman struggles with creating an identity and finding a sense of purpose for and how he should use his divine abilities. Jonathan and Martha Kent have the challenge of raising a child who is gifted as well. The sequence in the trailers of a young Clark preventing children from drowning in a school bus leads Jonathan to respond by telling his son that he needs to conceal the part that makes him unlike anybody else to likely avoid the consequences and the attention that is created from such actions. The questions that are presented by the characters and the choice of Snyder, Goyer and Nolan to have Superman exist in a world of realism creates plenty of intrigue for Man of Steel.
