5. Showing of Power
Now this is a big one. Outside of the superb Justice League Animated Series, youd be hard pressed to name any project that captures just how powerful Superman is. Of course this has been largely due to seventies and eighties film-making, TV show budgets and Bryan Singers total avoidance of getting Superman into a fight but given the current climate of Superhero flicks, Superman, now more than ever has some showing off to do. He has to be more powerful than Hulk, more of an iconic image of a hero than Thor, more dynamic than Iron Man and well, more super than an already super fueled cinematic world of superheros. Now Im not talking blowing up planets with a clap of his hands or blowing out whole star systems with his breath, Im talking just straight up fisticuffs and an absolute belief in how someone as powerful as Duperman would affect the world once hes introduced into it. Judging by the super blurry San Diego Comic Con footage, were gonna get it. Everything about the battles in this film have to feel epic. They have to outshine the likes of The Matrix Revolutions finale (which is still so Superman-ish, it hurts that it's in such a bad film), out-oomph the all the rather restrictive Marvel movies and of course go toe to toe with everything that rocked in The Avengers. I want to see Zod and Superman fighting like two super powered Kryptonians should. When punches connect I want to see windows blowing out. When someone gets hit I want to see them go through multiple buildings, not just hit a wall. Some of the iconic battles in Superman comics over the years have taken us to places where you feel every blow of a god in a fight. The ultimate hero needs the ultimate situation to show off what hes capable of and with Zack Snyder directing we have to be in good hands right?
