10. No Jimmy Olsen?
The Problem Although the Daily Planet and its two other prominent staff members, Perry White and Jimmy Olsen, have become mainstays of the Superman mythos, both Perry and Jimmy were first introduced in The Adventures of Superman radio program. Fortunately, Snyder gave us one of the best depictions of Perry White, played by Laurence Fishburne. The only complaint I really have about Fishburnes performance is I wanted to see more of it. But strangely absent is the Planets resident photographer. There is a Planet intern named Jenny, which led to speculation that the film chose to gender-bend Jimmy Olsen, but this turned out to be false. The question is, why isnt Jimmy in the film, especially when a more minor character like Steve Lombard appears?
The Fix A large problem with the movie is the lack of Supermans dual identity, and as a result of that is Jimmy being cut from the film. But Jimmy hasnt earned the nickname Supermans Pal for nothinghes Clarks best friend, and he serves a valuable purpose in the mythos. It would have been a simple matter to cast an actor to play a photographer, who could have even been a combination of the parts of the film that are served by Jenny the intern and Lombard.
