10. Krypton
Superman: The Movie did an admirable job of showcasing the infamously doomed plant of Kryptons final moments. Suffice to say, however, significant advances in the field of visual effects have been made since 1978.
Man of Steel utilizes its technological advantage by showing more of Krypton than fans have ever seen on film. Quantity alone is nice, but the quality of the Krypton sequences is what really matters.
Man of Steel visually demonstrates Krypton's more advanced science and technology relative to those of Earth. It is far more believable that a member of this society could build a rocket capable of carrying his newborn son to safety light years away. Without getting too specific,
Man of Steel also poses questions as to whether or not Kryptons superior science spawned an arrogance that ultimately hindered its societys moral compass. All of this leads to a violent external manifestation of the trouble brewing far below the planets surface.
