7. Russell Crowe as Jor-El
Taking nothing away from what Marlon Brando did for
Superman: The Movie in 1978, Russell Crowe reinvents the role of Superman's biological father, Jor-El, in
Man of Steel. Crowe is aided by having far more to do and say than his predecessor, but also brings an enormous presence to the character. Clearly, this is a man who could father the world's greatest superhero. Jor-El's ultimate fate is well known, but screenwriter David S. Goyer has found a creative new way of keeping the character involved in the story. There's not much more that can be said without spoiling some major plot lines in the film, but suffice to say fans will enjoy the role Jor-El plays. The House of El has a heroic lineage.
