Man of Steel Review: 10 Reasons Why You Will Love This Film

8. Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent

Man-of-Steel-image-4-600x407 In Superman lore, Jor-El fathered the boy, but it was Jonathan Kent who raised the man known as Clark Kent. He is generally viewed as a wholesome Midwestern dad with traditional values and a clear sense of right and wrong. That shifted a bit, though, when the character uttered a controversial word in the second trailer, "Maybe." With that one word, fans were put on notice that Kevin Costner's portrayal of Pa Kent may not be exactly the same as what they have grown used to. It was shocking to hear Jonathan even suggest Clark should have let innocent people (kids, no less) die in order to protect Clark's secret. Make no mistake, however, Costner still plays the elder Kent as a loving, devoted father. Kevin Costner is very endearing as Jonathan Kent. He is still an honorable man who does what he believes in his heart to be right. Above all else, Jonathan Kent believes the right thing is to protect his son. There is no "maybe" about that.
