4. Lois & Clark's Relationship
Again eschewing convention, Man of Steel is a film that is aware of what we know about Superman, and doesn't waste too much time on redundant shtick we've already seen. To this effect, Lois (Amy Adams) knows Clark's secret from very early on in the movie, using her trademark investigative skills to find Clark by way of his Earth mother Martha (Diane Lane). What impressed me throughout is that Snyder didn't feel the need to push the romantic angle too hard while trying to get the more pressing aspects of the reboot off the ground. Though Lois and Clark share some amusing moments of sure chemistry throughout, all it transpires into is a kiss rather than an overt declaration of anything else. The cheeky final scene surely teases that this will be expanded upon in the inevitable sequel, yet as a foundation, it is perfectly pitched here.
