Mark Ruffalo: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

5. Steve Landers - The Dentist (1996)

Dentit It seems like all too many respectable actors started their otherwise decent careers with a smattering of embarrassing horror films and the career of Mark Ruffalo is no different. Inspired by the story of serial killer dentist Nick Rex, it seems to be in incredibly bad taste that a parody should be made of such stomach-churning real-life events. Even by the standards of other sub-par mock-horrors like Swamp Thing and Saturday the 14th, The Dentist is outstandingly poor. The scares are predictable and the over-the-top images of mouths being desecrated start to seem ridiculous after a while. Thankfully for the career of the man who blew us away with his performance of Bruce Banner a couple of years ago, his appearance in The Dentist is brief. This doesn€™t mean that he didn€™t manage to seem incredibly wooden and forced in his fleeting time as April€™s manager Steve. Steve attacks the psychopathic dentist who sexually assaulted April after giving her a large dosage of Nitrous Oxide. With this sort of material it€™s a difficult task to give a good performance but this will doubtless go down as one of the low points in Ruffalo€™s acting career.
