11. Nick Fury Is Psychic

The Theory

Rather than just being a fixer who brings superheroes together to form the Avengers, Nick Fury is actually a super-powered individual himself. Specifcally, he's pre-cognitive.

The Evidence

Although season 1 of Agents of SHIELD specifically mentions that there are no clairvoyant supers (at least as far as SHIELD are aware), there's no way Fury can't be psychic.

His preparedness goes beyond even the most tactically gifted humans. He has back-ups that would be inconceivable to even the most intelligent of minds: whenever a plan calls for an outrageous Hail Mary, he's already got it covered.

How else could he hide a helicarrier? How else could he have allowances made to bring back Coulson from the dead? How else could he fake his death and successfully go off the grid? It's the only explanation, and he keeps it hidden from his former pay-masters precisely because he knows he'd end up being a guinea pig.
