Given that the film made over $700 million worldwide, it seems silly to think that there was a time when Guardians of the Galaxy was considered a huge risk for Marvel, and not many people expected it to do well. In fact, the movie was widely pegged as the company's first big failure before its release, but the right combination of filmmakers, acting talent and source material helped it rise to the rather hefty challenge of just... being good.

And this, combined with the success of a similarly risky play - Ant-Man - bodes very well for Doctor Strange, another character that on the surface, doesn't seem to have any mainstream appeal. Since Marvel have proven time and time again that they can take difficult characters and stories and adapt them quite well, is there any reason to assume they won't do the same here?

Even the original Avengers movie and the recent Captain America: Civil War were tricky propositions due to the sheer number of characters and plot threads they had to service. We have enough tangible evidence - that proves the studio knows what it's doing - to cause any fears, worries and apprehensions surrounding Doctor Strange to vanish, and in their place, a sizeable dollop of excitement would be appropriate.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
