Marvel Cinematic Universe: 10 Best Female Villains

2. Madame Gao

MCu Villains
David Giesbrecht/Netflix

Appeared In: Daredevil, Iron Fist

It's amazing that after so many appearances across both shows that it still feels as though we have barely scratched the surface in getting to know the enigmatic, heroin-peddling member of The Hand known as Madame Gao. We've seen her do physical harm to Matt and Danny, know she's been to K'un-Lun, and even saw her listening in when Davos and Joy Meachum were discussing how to deal with Danny, but how it all fits together, from the pieces of her history to her abilities to her placement in The Hand to what her goals are, is something that still remains to be seen.

And, perhaps, that's why she's such an effective villain. The mystery surrounding her character in the first season of Daredevil led to countless theories about who (or what) she actually is, and her heavy role in Iron Fist only added fuel to the fire in those same types of discussions. Most likely, all will be revealed - or at least enough to satiate fans looking for some of the big answers - in The Defenders, but for now, only speculation remains.

As it stands, Gao is an incredibly engaging character, one who demands attention in every scene she shows up in, and there's something about actress Wai Ching Ho's performance that's just electric. She's scary and mischievous, unafraid whatsoever of threats leveled at her, and it's going to be a lot of fun to see her cross paths with Matt and Danny once more and with an unprepared Luke and Jessica for the first time.
