Marvel Cinematic Universe: 10 Biggest Retcons Made By Marvel Studios

8. Stan Lee Is A Watcher

The late, great Stan Lee made cameo appearances in Marvel movies for decades, and they would later become a staple of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His final cameo came in 2019's Avengers: Endgame, but it was impossible not to look at them in a different light after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

In that sequel, filmmaker James Gunn showed "The Man" reporting to The Watchers, recalling some of his previous cameos in this shared world. Kevin Feige has since confirmed that the cameo was Gunn's idea, and that it was indeed meant to emphasise the fact that the legendary comic book creator has been playing the same person this entire time.

That's kind of mind-blowing when you stop and think about it, and it could be something Marvel Studios chooses to reference when Uatu the Watcher is introduced in the What If? animated series coming to Disney+ next year (where he'll be voiced by The Batman star Jeffrey Wright).

As retcons go, this is in equal parts cute and undeniably clever!
