Marvel Cinematic Universe: 10 Biggest Retcons Made By Marvel Studios
5. Turns Out The Mandarin Does Exist
Iron Man 3's Mandarin punchline did not sit well with a lot of fans.
In the build up to the threequel's release, Sir Ben Kingsley's version of the iconic villain appeared to pose a serious threat to the Armoured Avenger, but the movie itself revealed that he was just an out of work English actor called "Trevor." The Mandarin didn't really exist, and as A.I.M.'s Aldrich Killian put it, he was, in fact, The Mandarin!
It was unexpected, but not universally well received, and so when the "All Hail The King" One-Shot was used to reveal that there was, in fact, a real Mandarin, it wasn't exactly a huge shocker. In that, Marvel Studios retconned this Mandarin twist by revealing that the real deal isn't happy about the way his name was used by Killian and Trevor.
Now, he's set to be the lead villain in next year's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
