Marvel Cinematic Universe: 11 Films To Expect In Phase 4

Like Black Panther's staggering success last year, so, too, did Captain Marvel arrive earlier this year to an incredible reception, breaching a billion dollars at the worldwide box office despite being the character's first appearance. Coupled with her turn in Endgame, it's clear that audiences have taken to the character and the idea that she could help lead the MCU through its second decade alongside characters like Spider-Man and Black Panther.

Though Endgame gave us the opportunity to catch up with her in the present day, there's still a huge window of storytelling opportunity surrounding her history since she left Earth to help Talos and the Skrulls find a new home world in 1995. A sequel could dive right in to mine it for all it's worth to show us why she never returned to Earth, how it worked out for the Skrulls, and, of course, how Yon-Rogg, Ronan, and all the other Kree responded in kind to the events of the first film.

Thanks to the film's proximity to Endgame, not much has been discussed about a potential sequel regardless, as the focus has been on the big event and how Carol would figure into it, but it's certain that everyone involved will want to keep the ball rolling to get Captain Marvel back in theaters before too long, potentially for a release in 2022.
