Widely regarded as the weakest MCU movie (and the closest the series has come to a genuinely bad entry), Iron Man 2 is more a victim of where it came in the franchise than anything else. The coming years had the introduction of two lesser known heroes, as well as the long-teased team-up, and Marvel wanted to suitably set this all up, rewriting the standalone script to be greater acknowledge the emergent universe.
