Marvel Cinematic Universe: Definitive Guide To Easter Eggs, In-Jokes And Foreshadowing

Iron Man

17. The X-Men€™s Blackbird On The Iron Man HUD

If Marvel ever do strike a deal similar to Spider-Man with Fox to bring X-Men across to the MCU, they can at least (pretend) to have set it up before - when taking the Mark II armour out for a test-ride, one of the measures of altitude is a Blackbird, just like the X-Jet. Of course, the SR-71 Blackbird is a real-world plane, but including it in the film has to be a little wink to Professor X and co.

16. Fin Fang Foom Poster

You€™re never going to see iconic, alliterative villain Fin Fang Foom fight Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not because it€™s too silly (see: Extremis in Iron Man 3), but because the monster appears to be a piece of entertainment within the MCU - after Tony regains control of the frozen Mark II, a giant poster for the character can be seen.

15. Raza€™s Facial Scars Nod To The Comics

During Tony Stark€™s escape, ring-wearing Raza gets a burn down the side of his face, making him ten times more menacing. Not just adding to the cool factor, this also serves as a nod to the character€™s comic namesake; Raza Longknife is an X-Men villain of alien origin, made distinct by cyborg implants on half of his face.

14. The Golden Avenger Armour

Before settling on the now iconic red-with-a-bit-of-gold colour scheme for Iron Man's armour, J.A.R.V.I.S. throws out a couple of other renders which homage classic comic variants. The first is the Golden Avenger Armour, otherwise known as Mark II, first seen only a few months after the character debuted. Totally gold, it certainly is very indiscreet.

13. The Silver Centurion Armour

The second colour option hews close to the Silver Centurion Armour, from the mid-eighties, with a rather fetching silver and red scheme.
