Marvel Cinematic Universe: Definitive Guide To Easter Eggs, In-Jokes And Foreshadowing
Iron Man
21. The Ten Rings
The terrorist organisation who capture Tony Stark are known as The Ten Rings, and even come with their own, Al Qaeda inspired logo. The Ten Rings dont appear in the comics (originally it was Wong-Chu who kidnapped Tony), but are inspired by them - they take their name from the Ten Rings of Power, weapons of ultimate Iron Man nemesis, the Mandarin.
20. The Casino Music Is The Cartoons Theme
When first introduced to Tony Stark: Party Animal (as opposed to Tony Stark: Hostage), the audience sees him bunking off an award ceremony to go play some Craps. It's no wonder he feels at home in the casino - theyre playing the theme tune to his segment on the 1966 cartoon The Marvel Super Heroes.
19. Jarvis The Butler Becomes J.A.R.V.I.S. The A.I.
J.A.R.V.I.S. is known to screen audiences as Tony Starks personal A.I., an occasionally (and inadvertently) sarky home-system whos eventually upgraded to work in the Iron Man suits. According to the novelisation, the acronym stands for Just A Really Very Intelligent System. If that sounds a bit convoluted, thats because Jarvis was originally Starks human butler, a la Batmans Alfred. The comics A.I. is known as H.O.M.E.R., but that name's pretty much out of bounds after The Simpsons.
18. Obadiah Stane Calls Himself An Iron Monger
Although it, for the most part, wholeheartedly embraces the comics, the MCU will still skirt around its more sillier elements. Case in point, Obadiah Stane, who despite going full scenery-chewer in a giant metal suit come the third act of Iron Man, never goes by his alter ego, the Iron Monger. Well, almost. When trying to convince Tony to not turn his back on warfare, Stane calls himself an Iron Monger - "That's what we do. We're iron mongers. We make weapons." - hinting at his eventual turn.
