Marvel Cinematic Universe: Definitive Guide To Easter Eggs, In-Jokes And Foreshadowing

Thor: The Dark World

In narrative terms Thor: The Dark World isn't that different a film to Thor, the only difference being how it now also borrows heavily from the franchise formula set up by The Avengers; there's still that mixture of Earth and Asgard action (with slightly more of the latter). But, in terms of Easter eggs it is a very different story. There's much less in the way of Earth-bound relatability (little in this film, bar Thor's character arc, impacts the landscape ahead of Avengers: Age Of Ultron), with things much more fantastical ahead of Guardians Of The Galaxy and an even more out-there Phase 3. The big impact The Dark World makes on the wider universe is the canonisation of the Infinity Stones. Throughout the film, the series' various MacGuffins get linked together in passing dialogue, culminating in the debut of the phrase itself in the mid-credits scene.
