Marvel Cinematic Universe: Definitive Guide To Easter Eggs, In-Jokes And Foreshadowing

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

34. To-Do List

Steve Roger's to-do list originally just seems like a quick little joke at his "Man out of time" status, but when looking at the various releases of the film around the globe it becomes something rather smart. Different territories featured different lists, with culturally significant events and people changed (South Korea have Park Ji-Sung instead of the Moon Landing and France trumpets The Fifth Element), turning Captain America truly global.

33. The Lemurian Star

The name of the ship on which the opening action sequence takes place, the Lemurian Star, is the latest in a long line of nods to Namor - Lemurian was a rival city to his homeland Atlantis which also sank to the bottom of the ocean. As for the Star part... maybe because of America?

32. Batroc's Costume Subtly Acknowledges The Comics

Batroc, the pirate who commandeered the Lemurian Star is a key recurring Marvel villain, known for his kick-boxing skills, and often seen sporting a rather garish costume. And although the colours have been toned down for his MCU appearance, the general design has been kept - it's still purple with a gold stripe. With the villain last seen in S.H.I.E.L.D. captivity, there's plenty of opportunity for him to turn again down the road.

31. Stark Helped With The Helicarriers

The new Project Insight Helicarriers fly using a different method to the one seen in The Avengers - repulsors. As confirmed by Nick Fury, these came from Tony Stark, who "had some suggestions when he saw our old turbine", a flippant nod to the life-or-death middle act of the team-up. But this also lays some groundwork for Civil War - Stark's not above working with global powers on morally questionable projects.
