Marvel Cinematic Universe: Definitive Guide To Easter Eggs, In-Jokes And Foreshadowing

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

11. Nick Fury Faked His Death With Help From Bruce Banner

The exact specifics of how Nick Fury managed to survive being shot in the back a point-blank range is never made clear, but it is known his death was faked using the help of another Avenger; Tetrodotoxin B, which brought his heartbeat almost to a standstill, was developed by Bruce Banner to help control his Hulk. Not only a nice tying in on the wider universe, it also reminds you that heartbeat was how (in The Incredible Hulk) Bruce kept tabs on his alter ego.

10. Ed Brubaker Cameo

Although he's going to be a major part of the MCU, The Winter Soldier wasn't introduced in the comics until 2005. The writer who resurrected Bucky as a brainwashed assassin was Ed Brubaker, so it seems only fair he get a cameo in this film. He plays one of the scientists working on Bucky (the guy on the left) after he's had his first fight with Captain America.

9. Stan Lee Cameo

Stan Lee pops up again in a Captain America film (although as he was integral in bringing the character to the "modern" day there's no debate over his presence here), this time as a Smithsonian security guard who discovers Cap's stolen his old costume. The reason why Steve needs to take this old version is revealed in a deleted scene - he used his modern costume, which had a tracking device in it, to distract S.T.R.I.K.E. during his escape.
