Marvel Cinematic Universe: Every One-Shot & Webseries Ranked Worst To Best
5. WHIH Newsfront
In the weeks leading up to the release of Ant-Man back in 2015, the MCU took an interesting approach in promoting it, delivering their first web series in WHIH Newsfront, a series of short news broadcasts hosted by Leslie Bibb's Christine Everhart, the actress reprising her role from the first two Iron Man films. It returned again for a second run of episodes leading up to the release of Captain America: Civil War in 2016, its last episode dovetailing with that film's Lagos-set opening.
It's easy to dismiss the Newsfront series as mere promotional material, but its creativity and attempts at providing actual depth in what little time it's given helps it rise above being nothing but an advertisement. In its first season, it began using the fallout of Age of Ultron to start establishing the idea of superhero regulation, for instance, and a news ticker made reference to characters and events from the various films and shows, from acknowledging Tony Stark's public statements about Bruce Banner to an interview with Stephen Strange to the Watchdogs' actions on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Even aside from the fact Bibb returned five years after her last spin in the MCU, the appearance of other characters like Scott Lang and President Ellis helped make the web series feel like an actual part of the franchise rather than a commercial for it, standing as a unique bridge between all the elements of the franchise made for the fans.
