Marvel Cinematic Universe: Every Project To Be Excited For In 2019 (And Why)
2. Captain Marvel
Release Date: March 8, 2019
It's hard to believe how fast time has flown since Captain Marvel was first announced back in 2014, but here we are, the film a little over two months away from release, with buzz only continuing to get louder surrounding Brie Larson's big debut as Carol Danvers.
Like the hype leading up to the release of Black Panther around this time last year, there's a sense that we're in for something special with the MCU's first female-driven film, which will be taking us back to the 1990s to explore a time when Nick Fury still had both eyes and Phil Coulson was a fresh-faced S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. Though Carol will be spending time on Earth discovering her past, there's no shortage of cosmic fun on the way, with a war between the Skrull - finally entering the MCU - and the Kree serving as the larger backdrop of the film.
A few familiar faces like Ronan the Accuser and Korath will be in the mix, as well as newcomers like Jude Law's Mar-Vell and Ben Mendelsohn's villainous Talos, and it'll be interesting to see the film answer questions big and small, from how Nick Fury lost his eye to where Carol has been this whole time. Even further, as the old guard of the MCU's first decade begins to step down with Endgame, Captain Marvel herself will be stepping up to carry us forward for years to come, an exciting prospect as the landscape of the franchise undergoes radical changes, and hopefully everyone involved can deliver a film that lives up to the ever-mounting hype.
