9. Thor: The Dark World - Malekith The Accursed / The Dark Elves

Thor Dark World Malekith Poor Malekith. Poor, misunderstood Malekith. Seriously, did anyone understand this Dark Elf's plan? What was he going to do with that Aether? According to Odin, he planned to "transform our universe back into one of eternal night", but what does that mean? Did he literally plan to make it dark? Or is eternal night a metaphor for chaos? And what exactly constitutes the universe? Does he mean all nine realms, Svartalfheim included? Because that would be dumb. Does he just mean Asgard? Or Midgard? If so, what did we do to deserve that? Why are you so angry, Malekith? TELL US WHY YOU'RE ANGRY! All of these questions combined with his undefined abilities and the fact that the movie could have been over in the first five minutes if he had just bound himself to the Aether in the beginning instead of standing around, being useless (seriously, the Aether was right behind him during that opening scene, and he bound himself to it during his final fight with Thor, long before the convergence, so what was he waiting for?) make Malekith an ultimately forgettable villain Pros: Scary looking. Cons: Lack of backstory, lack of clear motivation, confusing plan, kind of dumb for not binding with the Aether sooner.

Yes, my last name is pronounced exactly as it's spelled. Just like "going to the store". ;) I am an aspiring writer currently working on my first novel, which is GOING to be awesome once it's published. (See what I did there?) I love reading, am a HUGE film buff (who welcomes all trivia challenges), and never miss a New York Giants football game. I'm an open book so if there is anything else you'd like to know about me, just ask.
