Marvel Cinematic Universe: Predicting The Next Decade Of Movies

3. Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Captain America will likely be the most different of all the Marvel films compared to its original, given that the time period is completely different, though at the same time, there are still some nagging threads which we hope they tie up. If they get it right, they could wring some unexpected pathos out of the character and make him the heart and soul of the Avengers line-up. Black Widow will appear; the film will detail her relationship with Bucky, though don't expect more than an extended cameo. Emily VanCamp has just been announced to star, presumably as Sharon Carter, Steve Rogers' love interest, and the person providing him with a link to his former flame Peggy, who she is the niece of. Hopefully they won't abandon the long-dangling thread that is Peggy's brief romance with Steve back in the 1940s; Joss Whedon had written a scene for The Avengers where Steve goes to see her in the present day, when she is in her 70s, so within that framework she is still supposed to be alive. Perhaps it would be a bittersweet scene at the end of Cap 2 if Sharon takes Steve to visit her.
