5. Thor: The Dark World
Its widely accepted that Thor: The Dark World is an entertaining romp if not much else. It falls frequently into mystical/scientific mumbo jumbo, robs Stellan Skarsgårds Erik Selvig of his mind and his trousers for no real reason other than a slightly sad sight gag and wastes English acting heavyweight Christopher Eccleston by giving him a mask and absolutely no character to get a grasp on as the Dark Elf Malekith. In fact the strongest aspect of Thor 2, aside from its more sympathetic portrayal of Thor and Lokis fraternal dynamic is the final fight with Malekith on the streets of London. Well, on the streets of London, above the streets of London, in parallel realms aligned with London, you get the picture. Basically Thor and Malekith get everywhere, even the tube at rush hour, and its one of the most imaginative superhero fights yet put on screen. The films central conceit, a convergence of the nine realms, allows the scrap to roll through different planets and realms at random, giving the action a chance to ping-pong the protagonists across the screen in hyper-kinetic fashion. By hitting on a frequently jaw dropping and genuinely humorous concept for a CGI heavy finale, Thor 2 just about makes up for its failings elsewhere.
