Marvel Cinematic Universe: Ranking Every Upcoming Project By Anticipation

15. Doctor Strange

Marvel Cinematic Universe
Marvel Studios

Doctor Strange is a bit of a, well, strange beast for Marvel. Although one of the major films they're releasing this year, with a bonafide megastar in Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role, there doesn't seem to be that much excitement about it.

That's weird because it's Marvel, and also because it looks very intriguing. The trailers have given the Sorcerer Supreme's world a definite Inception vibe, which is interesting, but maybe it's the weirdness that's putting people off (although there hasn't been a huge marketing push, either). He's a character Marvel comics fans have long wanted to see, but doesn't quite have that wider appeal (no, it didn't stop Guardians etc etc).

With a very talented cast - support comes from the likes of Mads Mikkelsen, Tilda Swinton, Rachel McAdams and Chiwetel Ejiofor - there's enough reason to believe it can work, and it'll further expand the scope of the MCU, introducing more magic and mysticism than we've seen before. It may also be Marvel's weirdest film yet as well (no bad thing), which is why it's not quite as anticipated as the others on this list.

Release Date: October 25 (UK), November 4 (US)
