Marvel Phase 4: 10 Mistakes Marvel Studios Has Already Made
Phase 4 looks undeniably exciting, but could the MCU be about to drop the ball in a big way?
Avengers: Endgame was the culmination of over a decade's worth of stories, and it most definitely didn't disappoint. After such an epic finale, it won't be easy for Marvel Studios to top that moving forward, and with so many lesser known characters receiving the spotlight over the next few years, it's clear that the plan is to usher in another era of storytelling, potentially based around a set of fresh faces.
Once upon a time, the likes of Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor were considered B-List superheroes, and C-Listers like Shang-Chi, the Eternals, and Moon Knight now finally look set to get their due.
It's hard not to be excited about what comes next in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and while we're by no means hating on the studio's future plans, some crucial Phase 4 mistakes have already been made. You might think we're jumping the gun with a declaration like that, but the signs are there, and better decisions definitely could have been made on their part (especially given current world events).
Over the coming years, there are bound to be some big hits, and the quality of movies is unlikely to dip. However, had these mistakes not been made, Phase 4 would have us so much more excited...
10. Not Making Bucky The New Captain America
Both the writers and directors of Avengers: Endgame have offered compelling explanations regarding why Bucky isn't the new Captain America, and it essentially boils down to his dark past as The Winter Soldier. However, the fact he has never fully been redeemed can arguably be blamed on Marvel Studios not giving Steve Rogers' oldest friend the screentime he deserves!
Had his story been handled a little differently, then him being chosen to follow in his oldest friend's footsteps would have made sense, and been something comic book fans would be 100% on board with (after all, that is what happened in the comic books).
There's no denying that the prospect of an African American Captain America is a thrilling one, especially as it feels very relevant in today's world. However, Bucky being sidelined simply doesn't sit right with us, and despite him having equal billing in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier TV series coming to Disney+, we can't help but feel like he's once again going to fade into the background.
