Maze Runner: The Death Cure Review: 6 Ups & 3 Downs

3. The Brutal 142-Minute Runtime

By far the biggest problem with the movie is its painfully excessive length, clocking in a stamina-testing 142 minutes, a good deal longer than either previous film.

While you can make the argument that this was "necessary" in order to prevent the final book being split into two money-grabbing movies, it's blatantly obvious where the narrative bloat could be trimmed.

There are countless overly expository dialogues peppered throughout the film which could be cut down substantially, but instead the first act in particular feels like a slog before things really get going.

There's no way this story, being as simple as it is, needed to run over two hours. There's a really entertaining 110-120 minute film in here, but as it stands, it is needlessly padded out.
