McAdams, Mirren & Penn in STATE OF PLAY

Matthew Carnahan's great script has attracted more talented thesps to join Kevin Macdonald's political thriller, led by Edward Norton and Brad Pitt.

Variety. Helen Mirren takes over the editor's job that Bill Nighy had in the original British mini-series, McAdams will be a reporter in the middle of a career-making story and Penn will play the wife of Norton who begins to suspect an affair when her congressman husband breaks down on national television upon hearing the death of his mistress. Brad Pitt is the only true friend the congressman has but ironically he is also a reporter on the case. It's a great script and it surprises me little that it's attracted this great cast. Kevin Macdonald directs his first movie post-THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND, and this promises to be one of the better movies of 2009.
