MCU: 10 Actors Who Redefined Their Characters
2. Chris Evans (Captain America)
Marvel is a global series, there's no doubt about that. The films have a worldwide appeal, extolling a universal heroic virtue that transcends borders, languages, and cultures. It's ironic then that one of the most successful parts of the MCU has been the hero who has the American flag all over him.
It was always going to be tricky to portray Captain America in the 21st century, especially when he's seen (literally) one of the most old-fashioned heroes in the Marvel canon. While never outright nationalistic, American politics are still in the fabric of his character. However, Evans was able to make it work.
Playing him with the same virtuous humility that Christopher Reeve used with Superman, Evans has made Captain America the pure golden boy of 21st Century heroics. Even those most critical of the United States and their policies believe that Cap seeks peace and justice for all people, because Evans is so dang assured with the convictions he doles out in film after film.
It's uncertain how long Evans will continue to play the Captain, but as far as audiences are concerned, he can "do this all day."
